MOOSE HUNTING
The 2012 rifle season opens on Saturday, October 6th and closes on Sunday, October 14th.

At Ogascanan we have a healthy moose population for several reasons:
  • Our restricted access zone has protected the moose population. For over 22 years Ogascanan has had a 1 week rifle season, whereas areas in the free territory have extended moose seasons.
  • Protecting cows helps to ensure the population; the taking of a cow is only permitted every-other-year.
  • We run a small hunt so as to not over-harvest; we can only accommodate a maximum of 10-12 hunters.
  • Quebec law: 2 hunters for 1 moose. Expect to pay approximately $500/person for your moose license.
    NO DRAW REQUIRED.

About the hunt ......

  • We offer you 9 full days of hunting.

  • We encourage you to arrive the day before the season opens so that we can give you a guided tour of the territory. We have built small, covered shelters at locations we consider the best vantage points for the area that you’ll be hunting. We’ll give you the tour and make suggestions, but the rest is up to you. This is a non-guided hunt.
  • We provide you with boats and motors to access your territory.
  • Bringing an ATV from home may prove advantageous.
  • Some vantage points are boat accessible while others will require some walking of trails and/or marshes.
  • The bush is very thick in our area; we have strategically located our shelters/blinds to optimize the best view of the area.
  • These are not areas where moose "just happen to pass through" – THEY LIVE HERE.
